Glodek Violas

Andrzej Glodek is the youngest member of a trio of master luthiers that have set up shop in Nowy Targ, Poland. He began studying violin making at the National Lyceum of Art in Zakopane. He also graduated from the Art Academy in Krakow with sculpture as his specialization. Andrzej then apprenticed under the Polish master Jan Bobak before striking out on his own. Glodek makes mainly violas which are played by many respected musicians around the world. His violas have a beautiful, rich sound that is sought after by advanced violists. He makes exceptionally modeled, ergonomic violas that focus on tone and playability. Jarek Koscielny Violins

Jarek Koscielny is a master luthier that has his workshop in Czestochowa, Poland. Master Koscielny makes his violins in Stradivari and Guarneri patterns using the finest Polish and Romanian materials. He has been making violins for JR Music Supply for years, which has pleased many of our customers. Bow Hair

It is common knowledge that the tail hair from horses in the colder northern and southern climates is considered the best. Being from a cold climate, the hairs are thicker and stronger. The gender of the horse also comes into consideration, as the stallion hair is cleaner than mare hair. White hairs are preferred for violin and viola bows over darker colored bows because they are usually smoother and finer in texture. Once gathered from the horse, the hairs go through a two step cleaning process before it is inspected for size, split ends and other irregularities before it is bundled and shipped.

JR Music Supply has just received a shipment of finest quality Siberian and Mongolian bow hair in 32" and 33" lengths. They come in one pound bundles and are comprised of white/unbleached, strong horse hairs that are of the same thickness. Please call your sales rep for price information.

Josef Simon Violins

Josef Simon is a master luthier in Romania, where he now makes violins with his two sons. Aside from making his violins by hand, he is noted for using wood that is 35 years old. Meticulous attention is put into all of the details in the construction of his instruments. The violins are beautifully flamed, have all ebony fittings and have been varnished for a stunning deep golden-brown antique finish. Bow Cases

While surfing the web, we checked to see what single bow cases are going for at this time. We were shocked to see the price people were charging for them, ($38.00 and upwards). Granted most people carry their bows in their violin/viola cases these days, but there are still some people that will transport their bow separately. Last of a Dying Breed

In the mid 1900's luthiers, violin makers, began making small sized violins for students as young as three years old. Actually, it wasn't until the Suzuki Method became popular that these smaller sized, fractional, violins became readily available.

About ten years ago, a Romanian manufacturer brought in artists to individually hand paint fractional violins so as to resemble the hides of animals, (i.e. cow, dalmation, giraffe, leopard, tiger and zebra), in an effort to make them more appealing to children. Each violin consists of all ebony fittings, Carpathian spruce and maple, with a durable lacquer finish. Along with the attaction of being uniquely different, these violins are tonally indistinquishable from standard varnished violins.

Unfortunately, these violins are no longer being produced. JR Music Supply has been fortunate to have uncovered a limited number of these violins, a number of which have been signed by the artist that painted them. Aside from being a an excellent first violin for a beginning student, they would make an ideal collector's item. These violins are available at an attractive, lower that ever price. The story of Andrea Rosins is an interesting combination of luck and diligence. Developed by Maestro Andrea Bang after he found a lump of rosin in a violin case owned by Paganini.
